God the Father and Jesus

The consciousness and the constant awareness of the Father was no accidental reality in the life and mission of His Son, Jesus Christ.  The Father was the sum and substance of His life.  Jesus was continuously aware that He came from the Father. The Father was the dead experiential centre of His life.  He lived only for His Father, and constantly gave Him glory through His miracles and ministry.  He went through His passion and death in total resignation to His Father’s will.  He knew that one day He would  go  back to  His Father.  Therefore, the Father whom He addressed as ‘ABBA’ covered the whole of His life. His entire life could be summed up in just two words ‘MY FATHER’.

His passionate love for His Father brought the deepest meaning to His life, His prayer, His passion, and His death.  It would be proper to say that He lived ‘FOR HIS FATHER ALONE’.  To put it in His own words, Jesus said, “The world must know that I love the Father”,  and  then again  “Zeal for  My Father’s  house consumes me”.

His spirituality was centered on the Father.  It was Patrocentric. He often spent the whole night with His Father in prayer.  (Lk 6:12)  The Father was the focus of His prayer.  He recommended that people pray to His Father personally as individuals.  “When you pray, go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret and your Father who sees what you  do  in  secret will  reward you”  (Mat 6:6).  When his disciples asked Him how to pray as a community, the focus was the same.  He taught his disciples to pray to His Father as “Our Father in Heaven. . . “ (Mat 6:9-15).

Beautiful Prayers to God the Father

Novena to God the Eternal Father

Dearest Father, Jesus Your Son taught us to call you by that most beautiful name – Father.  We come together as Your sons and daughters to worship and adore You in spirit and in truth and to celebrate our sonship and daughterhood together.  We come to thank You for being the Source and the Origin of everything good in our lives.
(Pause and thank the Father for all the gifts, graces and blessings you have received in your life…)

We ask Your forgiveness for the times and occasions when we have failed to live in truth and love as Your Son Jesus.
(Pause and ask the Father’s forgiveness for all your sins against Him and your neighbour, and for your sins of omission…)

Father, we promise to treasure our relationship with You as the most important one in our lives and as the only one that will last forever.  We will make Your Name known to all we meet; and live and love as one family until the day we see You face to face and live with You forever, in union with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, in the company of Mary and all the saints.

As Jesus has told us, “The Father will give you whatever you ask for in My Name’, so today we come to ask…
(Make your intentions and petitions known to the Father…)

We ask this of You Father, through Your Son Jesus, in His Spirit, who lives and reigns with You for ever and ever. Amen

This Novena Prayer has been composed for the glory, honour and praise of God our Eternal Father by Fr. Douglas Rowe, S.F.P.

Consecration of the Family to God the Eternal Father

Dearest Father, from whom every family in heaven and earth receives its true name, we, your sons and daughters consecrate our family to you today like Jesus your Son.  We place ourselves, our lives and our future into your hands for you are truly our God and Father.  May your Holy Spirit always strengthen us to please you alone in everything we do.

Father, protect our family from all harm and danger by the power of your Name.  Keep us safe from the evil one and from the ways of the world.  Help us to live holy lives by becoming more and more like your Son, Jesus.  May our holy lives lived in Jesus, free from sin, give you the greatest glory, honor and praise.

Righteous Father! Make us totally attached to you and dependent on you like your Son, Jesus.  We promise to bring others to know and love you as their personal Father.  As a loving Father, provide for all our needs.

The father of the family now says . . .

Father, you have placed me as the human head of this family.  Make me a good and caring father to my children.  They are really your children and you have given me stewardship over them.  Help me to be a sign of your Fatherhood to them.  May St. Joseph the faithful, silent, obedient and hardworking man be my model of a human father and may I be to my children what he was to Jesus.  Give me an unconditional love for my wife, that together with her I may lead my entire family to experience you as their real and true Father.

The mother of the family now says . . .

Father, you have called me to be a mother.  I thank you for the gift of all my children.  They are yours but you have lent them to me.  Make me a good and loving mother and let me bring them up as Mary brought up Jesus.  May her love for you Father, her love for silence and her contemplativeness be my inspiration.  Give me an unconditional love for my husband and may we both depend on you for everything.  Like Mary, let me bring up my children to love you as their Father and to do your most holy will all throughout their lives.

The children of the family now say . ..

Father, you have given us Jesus your Son to be our model.  Help us to imitate him in his obedience, respect and love for his parents, but above all in his passionate love for you his Heavenly Father.  Keep us away from all sin, bad movies, bad books and bad friends.  Give us the grace to live pure lives in this sinful world and should you call any of us to dedicate our lives to you through the Priesthood or the Religious life, let our answer in grateful love always be “YES”.

All say the “Our Father” together now.

This Consecration has been composed by Fr Douglas Rowe, S.F.P.  for the “Families for the Father” and should be said daily.

Prayer for One Family

God our Father, millions of people in this world suffer because of many others who do not know You as Father.  Move the hearts of all to know and love You as a compassionate, forgiving and just God.  Let me strive hard to establish Your Fatherhood in my life and get people to live as brothers and sisters.  May the world realize that we have only ONE FATHER and are ONE FAMILY.

The LAY PATRISTS - Who are they?

The Lay Patrists are the lay wing of the Patrist Society. They are committed lay people who have experienced God the Father in their lives, who love Him and therefore want to support and assist the Patrist Priests, Brothers and Sisters to fulfill their mission of bringing the whole world to know and love God the Father and live as good sons and daughters of His.

The Lay Patrists share the same spirituality, charism, vision and way of life as that of the Patrists. A unique feature of this lay wing is the lives of its members are closely inter-woven with the lives of the Patrists.

Being thus committed, the lay Patrists serve as an apostolic, prayerful, emotional and financial support to the Patrists. They not only help in recruiting people for our spiritual programmes, but also for the Patrist Societies.

The Patrists on the other hand look after the spiritual formation of the Lay Patrists helping them to grow in Christian values, Christian virtues, Christian spirituality and contemplative prayer through input, various spiritual sessions etc.

Mary in our Societies

“When the completion of the time came, God sent His Son born of a woman, born a subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as son/daughters” (Gal 4:4) Among the adopted sons and daughters of the Father, Mary stands first in line, not only because she has a dignity of being the Mother of the Son, but also because she is the beloved daughter of the Father. (cf. LG 53)

The Patrist, in imitation of Mary desires to fulfill the will of the Father in his/her life. The unconditional ‘yes’ pronounced on the day of the Vows, must carry forth till the day he/she meets the Father face to face.

The Patrist, like Mary, is called to ponder over the words of Jesus, and let the Spirit of Jesus mould him/her in His image and likeness. Pondering is the alternative to confusion and doubt and discouragement. The Patrist like Mary, should see every in his/her life as an expression of God’s love for him/her.

The Patrist prays the Rosary daily, the fond prayer of Our Blessed Mother, asking her to intercede with her Son, to quicken the spirit of sonship/daughterhood in the world.

The Patrist like Mary, is called to endure with the suffering Jesus and go through the pain and rejection which Jesus went through as a result of witnessing to the truth and proclaiming God as His Father. The Patrist is called to identify with Jesus and stand at the foot of the Cross. The Patrist is never an alien to suffering.

The Patrist is called to have her faith and recognize the face of God in the darkest hour, take a stand for truth and support the rejected , hated, persecuted and crucified Jesus in all those who share the Cross of Christ.

As Mother of the Church, we acknowledge her as the Mother of our 2 Societies, constantly leading us to her Son, who leads us to His Father. Chosen by God, she is the perfect daughter of the Father, the perfect Mother of the Son and perfect spouse of the Holy Spirit.

We honour her under the title of “Mary, the most perfect daughter of the Father”. We consecrate our two Societies to her every year on September 8th and renew our personal consecration to her as our Mother.

A Prayer to Mother Mary

Dearest Mother Mary, You were the perfect daughter of the Father, the perfect mother of the Son and the perfect spouse of the Holy Spirit.  As you co-operated with God to form Jesus into the beloved Son of the Father, now intercede for me, that the image of Jesus be formed in me and that I too may burn with the same ardent love for the Father.  Pray for me that I may love and trust the Father as He did, have the same warm and close relationship with the Father that He had, and love all men as He loved.  Be a mother to me always and be the queen of my heart, the queen of my life and the queen of my purity.  Amen.
